The Family Room
A family room is a place where folks can come and just be themselves. It’s comfortable. It’s a place where people connect with one another and talk and laugh and sometimes even cry. A family room is a life giving room where love and encouragement are shared.
Wouldn’t it be nice if going to church were like going in to a family room?
Why can’t it be? I think it can and should be!
Pastor, where would you get such an idea? I’m glad you asked!
Acts 2:46-47 So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.
1 Thessalonians 2:8 We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well, because you had become so dear to us. NIV
What if discipleship and evangelism happened by every believer purposefully helping those within their circle of influence (Christian or non-Christian) live everyday according to God’s plan? That’s what Jesus did.
Jesus made disciples of the 12 and others who came across His path through training and modeling God’s way in everyday life experiences.
I believe God has put it in my heart to lead GCC into this approach of ministry. Every believer equipped to simply recognize those who may already be in your sphere of influence and move them one step closer to Christ and encouraging people to live in view of eternity. This can happen if we will be sensitive to the needs of those around us. Pray for them, model before them and minister to them in everyday life. Then, when we gather together each weekend in the sanctuary called the Family Room and worship God and learn the Bible in a spirited but relaxed atmosphere. It will be more like a family reunion than a traditional church service.
Let’s learn and practice what it means to really be the church.
Ephesians 2:19 Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God
John 14:2-3 In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am…Sounds like a family room to me!
In His Love and Grace,
Pastor Kevin
